GREATER HUDSON VALLEY HEALTH SYSTEM HOSPITALS SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN A NATIONWIDE PATIENT CARE INITIATIVE – 07/05/2012
Middletown, N.Y. – Catskill Regional Medical Center and Orange Regional Medical Center have been selected to participate in the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) Center for Care Innovation and Transformation (CIT) initiative. This nationwide initiative further provides opportunities for nursing leadership in driving innovation, culture change and further supports healthcare reform implementation. Both hospitals are members of the Greater Hudson Valley Health System, the active parent company of the institutions which provide healthcare to nearly 450,000 residents in Orange, Sullivan and Ulster Counties.
The Medical/Surgical Unit at Catskill Regional Medical Center and the Orthopedic-Neurological Nursing Unit at Orange Regional, along with only 23 other Nursing Care Units in the country, have been designated as an American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) Care Innovation and Transformation (CIT) unit. The initiative is a grass roots approach to process improvement designed to improve quality, patient care and services, build more effective care teams and improve staff satisfaction and retention.
Each unit will study and assess current patient care processes and procedures. Upon careful review, they will then look to standardize and implement best practices, as needed, throughout the hospitals to create alignment in patient care across the System. The application of those practices will create a culture that supports performance enrichment.

The CIT initiative will act as a resource for nurse leaders looking to transform how care is provided as well as the culture in which the nurses work, allowing innovation and transformation to be the blueprint for daily operations. As a result, the frontline nursing staff will be empowered with the authority and tools needed to make changes that will improve overall patient safety and satisfaction.
